The Houthi group in Yemen claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on Israel’s Orot Rabin power plant on Sunday. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea, in a statement broadcast on al-Masirah TV, declared the attack was carried out using a hypersonic ballistic missile and successfully achieved its objective. He further vowed continued attacks against Israel, stating their aim is to force an end to the Israeli aggression and the lifting of the siege on Gaza, in support of Palestinian Mujahideen. This statement follows earlier reports from Israeli media of a missile interception originating from Yemen.
In a related development, al-Masirah TV reported that a coalition of US and British naval forces conducted three strikes targeting a Houthi military site in Saada, Yemen, in the early hours of Sunday morning. Social media posts from residents corroborated these reports. The US military has yet to officially comment on these events.
This latest attack is part of a pattern of escalating Houthi aggression against Israel. Since November 2023, the group has launched repeated rocket and drone attacks, targeting both Israeli infrastructure and disrupting shipping in the Red Sea. These actions are explicitly framed as a show of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. This follows a similar Houthi claim on January 3rd, when they reported launching missile and drone attacks on Tel Aviv, also targeting a power station with a hypersonic ballistic missile and a drone strike against a military target. The group reiterated its commitment to continue these attacks until the conflict in Gaza ceases.
