On Vinted, sellers pay no selling fee, but buyers pay a protection fee on top of the item price, plus shipping. The checkout total is what matters, and the fee structure differs by country. Working it out before you tap buy avoids the surprise at checkout.
The US fee
In the US, the buyer protection fee, renamed the Vinted fee in October 2026, is usually $0.70 plus 5% of the item price, excluding shipping and tax. The formula: fee = 0.70 + 0.05 x item price. Total before shipping = item price + fee.
Examples: a $10 item carries a $1.20 fee, totalling $11.20. A $50 item carries a $3.20 fee, totalling $53.20. A $100 item carries a $5.70 fee, totalling $105.70. Notice the fee is a bigger percentage on cheap items: 12% on a $10 item versus 5.7% on a $100 item, because the fixed $0.70 dominates small prices.
The UK and EU fees
In the UK the buyer protection fee is usually 3% to 8% of the item price plus a fixed 0.30 to 0.80 pounds, varying with the item, order value, and whether it is a bundle. Indicative totals: a 5-pound item costs the buyer about 5.45 to 6.20 pounds; a 20-pound item about 20.90 to 22.40 pounds; a 50-pound item about 51.80 to 54.80 pounds. The exact fee shows at checkout before you confirm.
In Ireland, France, and Germany the fee is typically 5% plus 0.70 euros. In Australia it is 5% plus 1.20 Australian dollars. The pattern is the same everywhere: a percentage plus a fixed amount, with the buyer seeing the exact figure before paying.
Shipping and the full total
Total to pay = item price + protection fee + shipping + any tax. Shipping is paid by the buyer on Vinted and varies by carrier and weight. Bundles can change the fee, since the fee is calculated on the order value and bundle rules differ. Always read the checkout breakdown line by line: item, fee, shipping, tax. If any line looks wrong, stop and check before confirming.
Sellers receive the full item price; the fee never comes out of the seller’s money. That is why Vinted can advertise zero seller fees honestly while buyers still pay. When comparing with other platforms, compare the buyer’s total on Vinted with the seller’s net on a platform where the seller pays, since the two models move the same cost to different sides.
Buyer checklist
Check the fee at checkout, not from memory: rates and names change, as the October 2026 rename shows. Add shipping before deciding whether a deal is good. Remember the protection fee buys the refund and dispute system: if an item never arrives or is significantly not as described, the protection is what gets your money back. Buying outside the platform to dodge the fee loses that protection entirely.
What the fee means for sellers pricing
Because the buyer pays the fee, sellers who understand it can price smarter. A buyer comparing two identical items judges the checkout total, not the list price. On a 50-euro item the buyer pays about 54.44 euros before shipping; on a 48-euro item the buyer pays about 52.29 euros.
That 2.15-euro total difference from a 2-euro price cut can win the sale while costing the seller only 2 euros. Conversely, pricing just above a fee band boundary can push the buyer’s total up disproportionately. Sellers cannot change the fee, but they can price with the buyer’s total in mind, which is what actually decides purchases.
