How to Calculate Your Wallapop Total Cost as a Buyer (Protection Fee + Shipping)

On Wallapop, the buyer pays the item price, a protection fee, and shipping. The protection fee uses a stepped scale, not a flat percentage, which makes it hard to guess. The table below plus the worked examples give you the total before you commit.

The protection fee bands

Wallapop Protection is charged on a stepped scale when you use Wallapop Shipping. From 1 to 13 euros: a flat 1.69 euros. From 13.01 to 657 euros: 0.69 euros plus 7.5% of the item price. From 657.01 to 2,500 euros: a flat 50 euros. The maximum insured value is 2,500 euros; above that, Protection does not cover the full value.

The fee is mandatory with Wallapop Shipping and covers escrow: Wallapop holds the money until you confirm receipt or the 48-hour review period passes, and handles claims for items that never arrive, arrive damaged, or do not match the listing.

Worked examples

A 10-euro item: fee 1.69 euros, total before shipping 11.69 euros. A 50-euro item: fee 0.69 + 7.5% x 50 = 0.69 + 3.75 = 4.44 euros, total 54.44 euros. A 300-euro item: fee 0.69 + 22.50 = 23.19 euros, total 323.19 euros. An 800-euro item: fee flat 50 euros, total 850 euros.

Notice the percentage falls as price rises: the fee is about 17% on a 10-euro item, about 9% on a 50-euro item, about 8% on a 300-euro item, and 6.25% on an 800-euro item. Cheap items carry the heaviest relative fee, which is worth knowing before buying low-value items with shipping on top.

Adding shipping

Shipping is paid by the buyer and varies by weight, destination, and delivery type (home delivery or pickup point). Mainland Spain home delivery roughly runs from about 3.49 euros for parcels up to 2 kg to around 14.49-16.49 euros for 20-30 kg, with pickup points cheaper. Island and cross-border routes cost more and have exclusions, including Ceuta, Melilla, and the Canary Islands for some methods.

Full total = item price + protection fee + shipping. For the 50-euro example with 3.49-euro home delivery: 50 + 4.44 + 3.49 = 57.93 euros. Always check the final amount on the payment screen before confirming; it shows the exact breakdown.

Buyer checklist

Confirm the protection band for your price, since the flat bands at the bottom and top behave differently from the percentage middle. Check shipping for your exact route and weight. Remember the 48-hour window after delivery to open a dispute. And never pay outside Wallapop to dodge the fee: you lose the escrow protection, and off-platform payments are a classic scam pattern.

Wallapop bundles

Buying several items from one seller in a single order, a bundle, ships together and is charged as one order. The protection fee is calculated on the order total, and you pay one shipping charge instead of several, which usually makes bundles cheaper per item than separate purchases.

Bundles also simplify the protection: one order, one tracking number, one 48-hour review window. If one item in a bundle is wrong, the claim covers that item within the order, so keep the bundle’s item list and photos until the review window closes. Sellers often accept small discounts on bundles because they save on packaging and handling too.
