How to Write a Statement of Purpose (With Template)

A template you can adapt

Use this only as a skeleton — do not submit it with the placeholders lightly edited, since admissions readers see the same templates repeated every cycle:

“[Specific moment or problem] first showed me [the gap or challenge in your field]. Since then, I have [concrete academic or professional step], which led me to [specific skill or insight]. During [degree/role], I [specific project or result with a number if possible]. I am applying to [program name] at [university] because [specific course, lab, or professor] directly addresses [your stated interest], and because [something specific about the program structure or location]. This aligns with [scholarship name]’s focus on [its stated priority], which I have already put into practice through [your real example]. After the program, I plan to [specific role or project] in [specific context, ideally back in Pakistan or your home region], building on [what the degree gives you that you do not have now].”
