A Life Rooted in Family and Community
Born on February 26, 1945, to Robert and Ruth Hawkins in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mark spent his formative years on the family farm in Munson Township, Ohio. As a graduate of Chardon High School in 1963, he left an enduring legacy as a class clown and football player.
Mark’s academic pursuits took him to Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, where he joined the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1967. His inquisitive mind led him to further his education at Rice University and The Ohio State University.
A Love Story for the Ages
In 1972, Mark’s life took a serendipitous turn when he met MaryKay Roslund in East Liverpool, Ohio. Their love blossomed amidst shared laughter, a love of the outdoors, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. On July 29, 1972, they exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony, embarking on a lifelong journey filled with mutual respect, unwavering companionship, and countless adventures.
