A Life Devoted to Family

Vivian “Vickey” Rowell was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who dedicated her life to the well-being of her family. Born on February 4, 1944, to John and Catherine Freeman, Vickey grew up in a loving environment that instilled in her a deep appreciation for family connections. Throughout her life, she cherished and nurtured these bonds, creating a close-knit family network.

A Heart Filled with Generosity and Zest

Beyond her unwavering devotion to family, Vickey was known for her exceptional generosity and her insatiable zest for life. She possessed an infectious joy that radiated to all who knew her, making her a beacon of light in the lives of others. Vickey’s spontaneous adventures and contagious laughter brought immeasurable happiness to her family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Community Involvement and Recognition

Vickey’s commitment to serving others extended beyond her family to the community she loved. She generously volunteered her time at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, Wickliffe Swim Team, and the Senior Center, making a tangible difference in the lives of those around her. Her unwavering dedication to her community earned her the prestigious Wickliffe Woman of the Year award in the 1980s, a testament to her exceptional contributions.

A Pioneer in Technology and a Trailblazer for Women

In the 1960s, Vickey forged a path in the male-dominated IT industry as a data processor and computer programmer, demonstrating her intelligence and determination. She shattered stereotypes and broke down barriers, becoming a role model for aspiring women in technology. Vickey’s pioneering spirit extended beyond her career, as she embraced new challenges and experiences throughout her life.

A Cherished Memory

Vickey’s legacy will continue to live on through the hearts of her loved ones. She is survived by her children, Robin (Alan) Leinweber, Becky (Rick) Malinas, David (Karen) Rowell, Elida Rowell, and Ryan (Grace) Rowell; her 14 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by her brother, Jack Freeman, and sister, Katherine Seacrest-Wolf. Vickey’s life was marked by love, kindness, and an unwavering spirit, leaving an unforgettable imprint on all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Vickey’s family will welcome friends and family for visitation on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and continued visitation on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 8:30 am until 9:30 am, at Monreal Srnick Funeral Home, 35400 Curits Blvd, Eastlake. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 29850 Euclid Avenue, Wickliffe. Vickey will be laid to rest at Mentor Cemetery.
