Obituary of Lawrence Joseph Andersen “Larry”

Lawrence Joseph Andersen (Larry) passed away peacefully at Longs Peak Hospital, Longmont, Colorado, on April 17, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

Larry was born to Norbert and Cherrie Andersen (née Fleenor) on September 16, 1950, on the family farm in Littleton, Colorado. His grandparents, Walter (Valdemar) and Annie Andersen (née Gallagher), were immigrants: Walter from Odense, Denmark, and Annie from Co. Mayo, Ireland. Larry was named after his uncle Lawrence Joseph Andersen, a member of the US Navy, who was killed in action on the USS Indianapolis, July 30-August 2, 1945.

Larry graduated from Cathedral High School in Denver in 1968. He held degrees in Public Administration (MPA, University of Colorado Denver, 1980) and Biology/Chemistry (BS, Metropolitan State University of Denver, 1978), in addition to multiple certifications and awards in the area of contracts management. He had a long and successful career in contracts management, much of it at the senior/director level, working for organizations such as the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Qwest/US West, Sierra Nevada Corporation, Ball Aerospace, Jacobs, and the GSI Family of Companies.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kathleen (née Riesenman), his three sons — Laurence Dane (Briana), Benjamin Joseph, and Robert Shane — as well as by five siblings — Lynn (Denny) Stecklein, Randy (Sheri) Andersen, Jeanne (Ed) Klemt, Susie (Randy) Stahley, and Tim (Andrea) Andersen — along with many nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Norbert and Cherrie, and by his brothers David (Joyce), Daniel (Loida), and Stephen (Eileen).
