Lowell, Massachusetts – Donald Andrew Jelley Jr., affectionately known as “DJ,” passed away peacefully at his home in Lowell on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of 92.

DJ was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, to George and Lillian (Miller) Jelley. He graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1951 and was a standout athlete, serving as Captain and All Star of the Lowell High football team.

After graduating from high school, DJ served in the U.S. Army First Signal Corp in Germany. Upon returning home, he began a long and successful career with Lowell Gas Company, where he worked for over 41 years.

DJ was a devout member of the First United Baptist Church in Lowell. He was also an active member of the community, volunteering his time to various organizations.

DJ was predeceased by his parents, his sister Pat Scaplen, and his beloved fiancé Helen Gentle. He is survived by his nieces, nephews, and his extended family on the Gentle side.

Per DJ’s request, a private ceremony will be held at Westlawn I Cemetery. His ashes and name will be added to the Gentle plot.
