Dixie Jane White McKeithen, a beloved wife, mother, and respected Southern Gospel artist and songwriter, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on November 4, 1946, Dixie’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her cherished marriage to Timothy McKeithen (58 years and 4 months), her love for family and friends, and her remarkable musical talents. She leaves behind her daughter, Angelina McKeithen. Though she had no siblings, Dixie shared a close, sister-like bond with her cousin, Bonnie White, a relationship that spanned their entire lives.
Dixie and Tim met at Bible College in Tupelo, Mississippi, their shared faith and love of music forming the foundation of their enduring relationship. Dixie’s contributions to Southern Gospel music were significant and far-reaching. She served as a vocalist, songwriter, producer, and later, a booking agent, touching countless lives through her work. In her early career, she was a cherished member of several prominent Southern Gospel groups, including The Gospel Keys, The Hemphills, and The McKeithens, touring with the latter for 21 years alongside Tim and Angelina. During this time, she sang, played piano, and wrote and arranged many of their songs.
Following her retirement from touring, Dixie worked for the Beckie Simmons Agency (BSA), a leading booking agency for Southern Gospel artists. She played a vital role in scheduling and managing artist tours, ensuring their smooth operation. She deeply cherished her relationships with Beckie and the entire BSA family, finding immense satisfaction in her work.
Dixie’s faith was central to her life. A member of Cornerstone Church until last year, she subsequently attended World Outreach Church online. She was known for her generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand and share her faith. She enjoyed hosting gatherings at her kitchen table, often informally adopting individuals without nearby family for holidays and Sunday dinners. Her kindness and generosity were boundless; she refused to turn away those in need.
Dixie was remembered for her infectious laugh, warmth, kindness, unwavering support, and her straightforward honesty. Her legacy will live on through her music and the countless lives she touched. She is now peacefully resting in the arms of her Lord, whom she deeply loved and knew.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Christ Church Memorial Gardens on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and share memories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dixie McKeithen’s honor to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
