Michael Jon Sanborn

Michael Jon Sanborn was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on August 19, 1955, to proud parents Zora and Howard Sanborn, both from Colorado. He grew up in Pebble Beach, California, where he graduated from Carmel High School in 1973.

In high school, Michael played football and was involved in a vocational program with the volunteer fire department. He also learned fine woodworking from Earl and Iris Stewart of Carmel.

Michael later attended the Colorado School of Trades, where he received his certificate in gunsmithing on October 25, 1984. His career included working for the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District for six years as a craft worker in maintenance and another five years as a bus driver and trainer. He also drove for Discovery Charters and enjoyed sharing the Monterey area with visitors.

Prior to his retirement, Michael worked for Stevenson School in transportation for five years. He enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, and fly fishing.

  • Former wife of twenty years: Dian Leckenby of Chico, CA
  • Children: Sarah Patino of Grantsville, UT, and Scott Leckenby of Chico, CA
  • Seven grandchildren

Michael passed from this life on December 15, 2023. A celebration of life will be held on June 15, 2024, at the First United Presbyterian Church of Corning, CA, at 11:00 AM.
