Namchi Road Widening: MLA Leads Inspection
On December 26th, Namchi-Singithang MLA Satish Chandra Rai led “Team Namchi” on an inspection of Namchi town’s roads. The purpose was twofold: to identify encroachments hindering traffic flow and to explore options for road widening and the construction of a new car parking plaza. The team included Namchi District Collector Anupa Tamling and former MLA Krishna Kumari Rai, reflecting a collaborative approach to Namchi’s beautification and development.

The inspection focused on key areas including Jorethang Road and Bhanjyang Road, with particular attention paid to the existing car parking plaza. MLA Rai explained that the initiative directly addressed concerns raised by Namchi residents. He highlighted the significant traffic congestion caused by roadside encroachments and haphazard parking, severely restricting movement.

To alleviate parking pressures, particularly for vehicles accessing the town via Bhanjyang Road, Rai proposed constructing a new parking plaza at the Namchi Food Godown site. He suggested relocating the food godown to either Jorethang Road or Kopchey to facilitate this project.

The MLA’s inspection team comprised a diverse group, including the SDM Namchi, Assistant and Junior Engineers from the Department of Roads & Bridges, representatives from Namchi Smart City Pvt Ltd, district-level executives from the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, and Namchi youth. The inspection extended beyond road infrastructure to include a visit to Namchi District Hospital. There, MLA Rai inquired about the quality of materials used and investigated complaints regarding delays in service delivery.
