The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP), administered by ORAU, offers exceptional opportunities for scientists to conduct research at NASA Centers and facilities alongside NASA scientists. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with three annual cycles.
- Eligibility: Open to recent PhD recipients (Postdoctoral Fellows, doctorate held less than 5 years) and Senior Fellows (doctorate held 5+ years); both U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens may apply, subject to visa requirements
- Research areas: Earth science, planetary science, heliophysics, astrophysics, biological and physical sciences, aeronautics, engineering, human exploration systems, space operations, space technology, and astrobiology
- Benefits: Competitive stipend, research support, and the chance to work directly with NASA scientific staff at NASA Centers nationwide
- Deadline: Annual application cycles close March 1, July 1, and November 1 — the next upcoming deadline is July 1, 2026 (note: the Astrobiology Program only accepts applications in the March and November cycles)
- How to apply: Register on the Zintellect Applicant Portal, identify a research opportunity and NASA advisor, and submit your proposal along with three letters of recommendation and official transcripts by the deadline
This is a rolling/ongoing program — candidates can apply for the upcoming cycle or plan ahead for a later one. Early contact with a NASA research advisor is strongly recommended before submitting a proposal.
