The Athens community is mourning the loss of Andrew Joseph Hoenig, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Andrew, who passed away on August 1, 2024, at the age of 74, will be remembered for his warm smile, infectious laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Born in Athens on June 18, 1950, Andrew was the son of the late George Joseph Hoenig Jr. and Theresa Lorene Schmuck Hoenig. He grew up in a close-knit family, which instilled in him the values of love, faith, and hard work.

Andrew’s greatest joy was undoubtedly his family. He met his soulmate, Joyce Hood, at a young age, and the pair spent 58 wonderful years together, including 55 years as husband and wife. Their love for each other was undeniable and served as an inspiration to all who knew them.

Andrew and Joyce welcomed two sons, Phillip Andrew and Joseph George, into the world. His sons and their families were the light of his life. Andrew was a devoted father and adored his grandchildren, Lindsey, Rachel, Carley, Ethan, and Evan. His great-granddaughter, Valentina Rose, brought immense joy to his final years.

A Community Leader and Friend

Beyond his family, Andrew was deeply involved in the Athens community. He was a pillar of the local church and served on numerous boards and committees. Andrew’s commitment to giving back was evident in his tireless efforts to support those in need.
