Cullman, Alabama – Danny Winford Baker, the first baby born in Cullman in 1951, has passed away at the age of 73. Baker passed away on July 10, 2024 surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.
Early Life and Family
Danny Winford Baker was born on January 1, 1951 to Alvin Baker and Nettie (Vest) Baker. He was the first baby born in Cullman that year, a distinction that he carried with pride throughout his life.
Baker is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Gale Baker, and his three children: Heath Baker, Angie Baker, and Clay Baker. He also leaves behind his sister, Judy Baker Walker, as well as two grandsons, two great granddaughters, and numerous other family members.
Community Involvement and Hobbies
Baker was an avid Alabama football fan and could often be found in front of the television on Saturdays rooting for his favorite team. He was also a dedicated basketball coach, coaching his sons’ teams when they were younger.
Baker was known for his willingness to help out friends and neighbors. He was always there to lend a helping hand, whether it was fixing a car, mowing a lawn, or simply providing a listening ear.
In his spare time, Baker enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, taking care of his family’s three cats, and teasing his family members. He will be fondly remembered for his love of life, his infectious laugh, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Legacy and Memorial
Danny Winford Baker will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the Cullman community. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.
