Waterville Resident Jane K. Leighton Passes Away at 92

Leighton was a beloved member of the community and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Jane K. Leighton, a longtime resident of Waterville, Maine, passed away peacefully in Scarborough on July 19, 2024, at the age of 92.

Leighton was born in Waterville on January 1, 1932, to parents John and Mary Leighton. She grew up in the city and attended Waterville High School. After graduating, she worked as a secretary at a local business.

In 1955, Leighton married her husband, Richard. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter. Leighton was a devoted wife and mother, and she loved spending time with her family.

Leighton was also an active member of the community. She volunteered at the local soup kitchen and was a member of the Waterville Historical Society. She was also a talented artist and enjoyed painting and drawing.

Leighton will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was a kind and compassionate woman who always put others before herself. She will be remembered for her love of life and her dedication to her community.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2024, at the Wheeler Funeral Home in Oakland, Maine. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Waterville Soup Kitchen in Leighton’s memory.
