A Life of Service and Passion

George E. Gould Sr., a pillar of the Citrus Springs community for over three decades, passed away on May 12, 2024, at the age of 88. Known for his dedication to his family, his community, and his craft, George left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

A Devoted Patriot

Born in a small town in Maine, George’s life took a significant turn when he joined the United States Army as a young man. He served his country with honor during the Korean War as a Tanker, demonstrating his bravery and unwavering commitment to duty.

A Skilled Auto Mechanic

Upon returning home from the war, George settled in Dunnellon, Florida, where he established Gould’s Auto and Repair Shops on both sides of Highway 41. His love for mechanics was evident in his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to diagnose and fix any automotive problem.

A Dedicated Volunteer

Beyond his professional life, George was deeply involved in the Dunnellon community. He was a proud member of the Dunnellon Masonic Lodge and the Low 40’s Club, where he volunteered his time and supported various charitable initiatives. George was known for his kindness and his willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need.

A Nature Enthusiast

Outside of his work and community service, George had a deep passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, boating, and skeet shooting. He spent countless hours exploring the natural beauty of Florida and Georgia, where he owned a property that he affectionately called “heaven on earth.”

A Man of Faith

George was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Citrus Springs, Florida. He also attended St. Francis of Assisi in Blairsville, Georgia, when he was visiting his property there. His faith was an important part of his life, guiding his actions and providing him with comfort and strength.

A Cherished Family Man

Above all else, George was a devoted family man. He is survived by his daughter, Danita; a grandson, Darren Chappelle; and a granddaughter, Nikki Gould. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, as well as his stepson, Rick Fleury; stepson, Larry Fleury; step-grandchildren, Derrick Farmer, Tony Fleury, and Kyliene Reyes; and six great-stepgrandchildren.

George’s passing is a profound loss for his family, his friends, and the entire Citrus Springs community. His unwavering spirit, his selfless service, and his love for life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Funeral Arrangements

A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 10 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Citrus Springs, Florida. Interment will be held at a later date in Maine.
