Obituary for Don Atkinson

Don Atkinson, age 85, of Burnsville, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024. Don was born on January 15, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to parents Richard and Sarah Atkinson. He grew up in Edina, Minnesota, and graduated from Edina High School in 1957. Don went on to attend the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in business administration in 1961.

A Devoted Husband and Father

Don married the love of his life, Karen, in 1963. Together, they raised three sons: Rich, Mike, and Jim. Don was a loving and supportive husband and father. He always put his family first and was actively involved in their lives. He coached their sports teams, attended their school events, and was always there for them whenever they needed him.

A Successful Career in Business

After graduating from college, Don began his career in sales. He quickly rose through the ranks and became a top performer. In 1975, Don founded his own company, Atkinson Sales and Marketing. The company was a great success and Don led it for over 30 years.

A Dedicated Community Member

Don was a dedicated member of his community. He served on the Burnsville City Council for 10 years and was a member of the Burnsville Chamber of Commerce. He was also active in his church, the Church of the Risen Savior, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and a member of the finance committee.

A Life Well-Lived

Don Atkinson was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a kind and caring man who always put others before himself. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

  • Grandchildren: Kyle, Kory, Benjamin, Jonah, and Adam

Memorial Service

Mass of Christian Burial, 11am Friday, June 14, 2024 at Church of the Risen Savior, 1501 E CR 42, Burnsville. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church.
