In Memoriam: Troy Barker Clark, A Life Cut Short by Unintended Fentanyl Exposure

Troy Barker Clark, a beloved son, brother, nephew, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 34 on October
29, 2023. His passing serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is 50 times
more potent than heroin.

Troy was born on October 19, 1989, in Sonora, CA. The family later moved to Vallejo and then to Benicia, CA, where
he spent much of his life. He attended Benicia High School and then Solano Community College to study the art of
welding and auto body.

Troy will be remembered for his generous, caring heart and love of nature and animals. He was always willing to help
others and always put their needs before his own. He was also a talented artist and musician, and he loved to spend
time outdoors and enjoying the beauty of nature.

Troy is survived by his mother, Suzanne Marie Valentine, sister Sophia Elyse Winchell. The family is heartbroken by his
loss and is asking for privacy at this difficult time.

Fentanyl: A Deadly Danger

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin. It is often mixed with other drugs, such
as cocaine or heroin, and can be deadly even in small doses.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that fentanyl is the leading cause of overdose deaths in
the United States. In 2021, more than 100,000 people died from drug overdoses, and two-thirds of those deaths
involved fentanyl.
