Odisha Bikers Stone Car, Crowd Fights Back

A disturbing video circulating on social media depicts a shocking incident of road rage in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The footage shows two men on a motorcycle aggressively pursuing a car, repeatedly throwing stones at it. The car’s occupants captured the escalating violence, culminating in one of the bikers being surrounded and reportedly assaulted by a crowd.

The video begins with the car’s occupants filming the pursuing bikers. One biker is clearly seen holding a stone as they chase the vehicle at high speed. Their initial stone throw misses, but undeterred, they stop to collect another before continuing the pursuit. This time, they get close enough to hurl the stone, shattering a car window.

The reason for this violent confrontation remains unknown. However, the escalating tension eventually led to the intervention of bystanders. The video concludes with one of the bikers on the ground, surrounded and seemingly being attacked by a large group of onlookers.

The video’s caption claims the bikers attacked the car without provocation. Since its posting, the video has garnered over 100,000 views, sparking widespread online discussion and condemnation. Comments ranged from suggestions to immediately report such incidents to the police, to humorous comparisons to the video game GTA, and expressions of disbelief, fear, and anger at the perpetrators. Many users highlighted the lack of safety on Indian roads and the aggressive behavior of some drivers.

This incident highlights a broader issue of road rage in India. Recent similar incidents in Bengaluru underscore the prevalence of such aggressive behavior on the country’s roads. One Bengaluru incident involved a scooter rider causing a minor accident and sparking a confrontation with an angry car driver, while another saw a scooty rider’s inattentive driving lead to a near-violent altercation. These incidents serve as stark reminders of the dangers and challenges faced by road users in Indian cities.
