Plaza Skips Globes After Husband's Passing

Aubrey Plaza was notably absent from the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. Two days prior, her husband, Jeff Baena, passed away. While numerous celebrities gathered at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the 82nd Golden Globe ceremony, Plaza’s absence was deeply understandable given the tragic circumstances. She had been scheduled to present an award, though the specific award and her replacement remain unconfirmed.

Baena’s death was reported on Friday morning following the discovery by an assistant. Law enforcement authorities have determined the cause of death to be suicide. Baena was a respected filmmaker, known for directing films such as “Life After Beth” and “Horse Girl,” and for co-writing the comedy “I Heart Huckabees.”

Fellow actress Molly Shannon paid tribute to Baena on social media, sharing photos of them together with a simple broken heart emoji. His passing was also acknowledged at the Golden Globes themselves, with director Brady Corbet mentioning Baena during his acceptance speech.

Plaza and Baena were married in 2021, a low-key affair she later described on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” TMZ reached out to Plaza’s representatives for comment regarding her absence from the Golden Globes, but has yet to receive a response.
