Police have a suspect in custody following the random slashing of two people at Grand Central Terminal.

A suspect is in custody following two slashing incidents at the Grand Central subway station in Midtown Manhattan late Tuesday night. The attacks, which occurred around 10:15 p.m. on a northbound 4/5/6 train platform, appear to have been random and unprovoked.

According to authorities, the 28-year-old suspect initiated a verbal altercation with a 42-year-old man, slashing the man’s wrist before fleeing upstairs. The suspect then slashed a 26-year-old woman in the neck near a turnstile on the next level of the station. However, witnesses quickly identified the suspect to police as he attempted to escape on an escalator, resulting in a swift arrest. Police report the suspect has a history of prior arrests. Charges are pending.

Both victims were transported to a hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
