Remembering Ronald Richard Kugel, a Proud Marine and Cherished Family Man

Remembering Ronald Richard Kugel: A Life Well-Lived

A Proud Marine and Family Patriarch

Ronald Richard Kugel, a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, left an enduring legacy as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Born on March 25, 1935, in Postville, Iowa, he passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024, at the age of 89.

Ron’s unwavering patriotism and dedication to his country were evident throughout his life. He served with honor from 1950 to 1953, leaving an indelible mark on his fellow Marines. His military service instilled in him a sense of discipline, loyalty, and unwavering determination.

Beyond his military career, Ron was a dedicated family man. On March 16, 1958, he married the love of his life, Eleanor “Ellie” Severe. Their marriage, spanning 61 blissful years, became a testament to their unwavering love and commitment.

As a father, Ron took immense pride in his three children: daughter Kimberly, a retired Chief in the United States Navy; son Steven, a loving husband and father; and son Jeffrey, who brought much joy to his family’s life before passing away.

A Legacy of Love and Dedication

Ron Kugel’s love for his family extended to his grandsons, Connor and Blain. He cherished every opportunity to be present in their lives, attending sporting events, making phone calls, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Beyond his family, Ron held a special place in his heart for his daughter-in-law, Lora Kugel, and his sisters, Yvonne Brandt and Janice Listika. Their love and support were a constant source of joy and happiness for him.

A Man of Passions and Hobbies

Outside of his family and military service, Ron had a passion for collecting Ertl trucks, reminding him of his childhood in Postville. He also enjoyed camping with his family, creating lasting memories in the great outdoors.

Ron was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, eagerly awaiting new challenges from his grandsons. His sharp mind and quick wit made him a formidable opponent in any game.

Retirement brought Ron new opportunities to share his love and dedication. He assisted his son, Jeffrey, by running parts at Carquest, where his hard work and experience were greatly appreciated.

A Champion in Retirement

In his later years, Ron made the Robin Way retirement community his home, where he found camaraderie and companionship among fellow residents. He quickly became a respected member of the community, actively participating in poker and bingo games.

His competitive spirit and wit earned him a well-deserved trophy as the bingo champion, bringing smiles and laughter to those around him.

Honoring a Life Well-Lived

Ronald Richard Kugel’s life was a tapestry woven with love, service, and dedication. He served his country with distinction, raised a loving family, and left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
