Sanjay Leela Bhansali’S Insightful Appraisal Of Sharmin Segal’S Role In ‘Heeramandi’

## Sanjay Leela Bhansali Praises Sharmin Segal’s Performance in ‘Heeramandi’

Mumbai, May 23, 2024: Acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has lauded the performance of his niece, Sharmin Segal, in his highly anticipated web series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’.

### Acting with Restraint

In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Bhansali revealed that Sharmin was initially hesitant to portray the character of Alamzeb with restraint. “She kept saying, ‘Mama, I’ll underplay,'” recalled the director. However, Bhansali believed in her ability to convey emotions subtly. “I said, ‘Underplay? Are you thinking I’m going to ask you to overplay?”

### A New Generation of Actors

Bhansali expressed his appreciation for the younger generation of actors, including Sharmin. “I know that they love me as much. I can see it in the way (they ask me), ‘Are you happy? Should we do one more take? Can we do it one more time? Are you okay? I can see that love in their eyes. Now that’s very rare,” he stated.

### Sharmin’s Character in ‘Heeramandi’

Sharmin Segal plays Alamzeb, the daughter of Mallikajaan (Manisha Koirala), the madam of a brothel in Heeramandi. The series, which premiered on Netflix on May 1, 2024, delves into the lives of the women who inhabit the infamous red-light district.

### Sharmin’s Journey with Bhansali

Before her acting debut, Sharmin assisted Bhansali on several of his directorial projects, including ‘Bajirao Masrani’ and ‘Padmaavat.’ She made her acting debut in Bhansali’s 2019 production ‘Malaal.’
