With profound sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Robert Neil Payson on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the age of 63. Rob, as he was affectionately known, was a beloved father, husband, brother, and friend whose memory will forever be cherished.
A Life of Adventure and Tranquility
Born in Augusta, Maine, on June 23, 1960, Rob’s love for the outdoors shone brightly throughout his life. He found solace and exhilaration in cycling, skiing, and kayaking, spending countless hours exploring the scenic trails and waterways of Maine. Among his favorite destinations was Southport Island, where he cherished the tranquility of Lighthouse Beach and the panoramic views of the ocean.
A Dedicated Professional and Provider
In addition to his passions for the outdoors, Rob was a highly respected professional in his field. With nearly 40 years of experience as a senior field technician and team leader for Ricoh-USA, he consistently exceeded expectations with his exceptional customer service and technical expertise.
A Devoted Family Man
Rob’s greatest joy came from his unwavering love for his family. He met his beloved wife, Kathy, in the late 1980s, and their union was blessed with their son, Kyle, in 2000. Rob’s love for Kyle knew no bounds, and he was his constant source of support and encouragement.
As a husband and father, Rob was selfless and always put the needs of his family ahead of his own. His unwavering belief in Kyle’s abilities and unwavering support extended to every aspect of his life. Rob’s legacy of love and devotion will forever inspire his family.
A Man of Many Talents and a Gentle Soul
Beyond his adventures and professional achievements, Rob possessed a wide range of talents. He was an avid sports fan, a skilled photographer, and a lover of music. However, above all else, he was a kind and compassionate soul whose gentle nature touched the hearts of everyone who knew him.
A Farewell to a Treasured Soul
Robert Payson will be deeply missed by his son, Kyle Payson of Randolph; his siblings, Dale Payson of Honolulu, Hawaii; Mary Linneken of Davie, Florida; Beth Payson of Portland, Maine; Alan Payson of Boca Raton, Florida; Norman Payson of West Palm Beach, Florida; and Andrew Payson of Southport, Maine.
He was predeceased by his brother, Brian; his parents, Norman and Jeanne (Hamilton) Payson; and his wife, Kathy W. Payson.
A private celebration of Rob’s life will be held by his close family and friends on their property on Southport Island, a place where he found peace and joy.
