Early Life and Education
Linda Hendrix was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on September 15, 1944, to William and Winnie Hendrix. She moved to Michigan with her parents after his military service, where she spent her formative years in Benton Harbor. After graduating from Benton Harbor High School in 1963, Linda pursued her passion for education, earning degrees from Lake Michigan College and Michigan State University.
A Dedicated Educator
Upon receiving her teaching credential in 1967, Linda embarked on a remarkable 30-year career as a middle school teacher in Flint, Michigan. She dedicated herself to her students, going the extra mile to support their academic and personal growth. Linda’s belief in the power of education inspired her to create a nurturing and supportive learning environment for all.
Post-Retirement Pursuits
After retiring from teaching, Linda continued to share her love of knowledge as a part-time worker for Western Michigan University, conducting drug and alcohol surveys in schools. She remained an advocate for education and youth welfare, using her experience and expertise to improve the lives of others.
Arts and Leisure
Beyond her educational pursuits, Linda had a deep appreciation for the arts. She enjoyed painting, playing the violin and piano, and was an avid golfer. She also loved spending time at the casinos, where she could engage in her favorite pastime.
Family and Legacy
Linda moved to Vallejo in 2015 to be closer to family. She is survived by her siblings, Newell, Michael (Mimi), Kenneth (Jocelyn), and Gail, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Linda’s legacy lives on through the countless students she touched and inspired throughout her career, and the many who will cherish her memory.
Memorial Service
A memorial service honoring Linda Jan Hendrix will be held on Friday, August 2, at 11:00 am at Twin Chapels Mortuary, located at 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. All who knew and loved Linda are invited to celebrate her life and legacy.
