Janet (Pierce) Coughlin Buzzell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Janet, born in Lewiston, Maine, was the daughter of John Hobart Pierce Sr. and Katherine (McGrath) Pierce. She graduated from Williams High School in Oakland in 1950 and went on to lead a fulfilling life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
A Life Filled with Love
In 1951, Janet married her high school sweetheart, Maurice Coughlin, in Orono, Maine. Their love story spanned many years, filled with joy and companionship. After Maurice’s passing, Janet found love again with Harrold Buzzell, a longtime friend and classmate. Together, they shared many happy memories and created a blended family filled with love.
Janet’s family was the center of her life. She was a devoted mother to her son, Michael, and a loving grandmother to her grandsons, David and Philip. She cherished every moment with her family, celebrating milestones and creating lasting memories.
A Passion for Real Estate
Janet’s professional life was marked by her passion for real estate. She obtained her real estate sales and brokerage licenses and owned and operated Coughlin Agency for several years. She was a respected realtor, known for her expertise and dedication to her clients.
Active in the Community
Outside of her work, Janet was actively involved in her community. She was a member of the Oakland Mother’s Club, Oakland Tuesday Club, and the Maine State Realtors. Janet’s love for her community was evident in her volunteer work and her dedication to making it a better place.
A Love for Adventure and Life
Janet had a zest for life and enjoyed many hobbies and activities. She loved attending music festivals with her husband, Harold, and close friends. She was an avid bridge player and participated in many hands with her cherished friends. Janet also enjoyed playing golf and bridge with her special friend, Rene Plante.
Legacy of Love and Kindness
Janet (Pierce) Coughlin Buzzell will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation will be held at Wheeler’s Funeral Home, 26 Church St. in Oakland on Monday, August 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A graveside service and burial will be held Tuesday, August 6, at 10 a.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Oakland.

The family expresses their deepest appreciation for the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Mid-Maine Medical Center in Augusta for their exceptional care during Janet’s last few days.
