Generate Every App Icon Size from One Image
An app needs more than one icon. Phones, tablets, app stores, and web browsers each ask for a different size, from a tiny sixteen-pixel favicon to a huge five-hundred-and-twelve-pixel store icon. Resizing by hand, one size at a time, is slow and error-prone. This tool takes one square image and produces the full set in seconds.
The tool is free and runs fully in your browser. Your image is never uploaded to a server, which matters when the icon is for an unreleased app. All thirteen sizes are generated on your device and downloaded as PNG files.
The Sizes You Get
The set covers sixteen, thirty-two, and forty-eight pixels for favicons and desktop shortcuts; fifty-seven, seventy-two, seventy-six, ninety-six, one hundred and twenty, one hundred and forty-four, one hundred and fifty-two, and one hundred and eighty pixels for phones and tablets; one hundred and ninety-two pixels for Android and web apps; and five hundred and twelve pixels for app stores and progressive web apps.
Each size is a separate PNG, named by its dimensions, so you can drop the files straight into your project. The tool scales your image to cover each square fully, so there are no stretched or squashed icons and no empty bars.
Designing a Good Source Image
Start with a square image, at least five hundred and twelve pixels on each side, so the largest icon stays sharp. Keep the main symbol large and centred, with a little breathing room at the edges. Fine text and thin lines disappear at small sizes, so test the sixteen-pixel icon first: if it is still readable there, it will read everywhere.
Use a bold background colour and a simple shape. The most recognisable app icons are readable at a glance on a crowded home screen. Avoid photographs as icon sources unless the subject is very bold, because photos turn to mush at small sizes.
Using the Icon Set
For a website, the small sizes serve as favicons, the browser tab icons. For Android, the one hundred and ninety-two and five hundred and twelve pixel icons cover the home screen and the store listing. For iOS, the one hundred and eighty pixel icon is the key home-screen size, with the smaller sizes covering older devices and settings screens.
Keep the whole set in your project folder, even the sizes you do not need today. Stores and platforms change their requirements, and having the full set ready saves a repeat visit later.
A Quick Workflow
Upload your square image, press generate, and download the sizes you need, one by one or all at once. There is no account, no install, and no upload. Your artwork stays private, and the full set is ready in under a minute.
Testing Icons Before You Ship
Generating the sizes is only half the job, because an icon that looks great at five hundred and twelve pixels can fail at sixteen. Before you ship, test the whole set the way users will see it. Put the small sizes in a browser tab and look at them from a normal sitting distance, not zoomed in. Place the phone sizes on an actual home screen next to other apps, and check whether yours stands out or disappears. Ask someone who has not seen the design before what they think the icon is for, because fresh eyes catch confusion that the designer misses. Two common failures are worth checking for: text that is too small to read at sixteen pixels, which should be removed or enlarged, and a background colour too close to the phone’s wallpaper, which makes the icon blend in. Fix these in the source image and regenerate the set, which takes seconds, rather than patching individual sizes by hand.
