It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wesley Chipman Smith, a beloved resident of Augusta, Maine. Wesley, known to his friends and family as Wessy, Chip, or Weasel, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023, at the age of 74.
Wesley was born in Augusta on July 17, 1948, to parents Richard and Mary Smith. He grew up in the city, attending local schools and graduating from Cony High School in 1966. After high school, Wesley embarked on a successful career in the construction industry, where he spent many years as a skilled carpenter and foreman.
A Devoted Family Man
Wesley was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda, in 1969, and they shared over 50 years of love and companionship. Together, they raised two children, Michael and Jessica, who brought immense joy to their lives.
In his later years, Wesley became a loving grandfather to his three grandchildren, Ethan, Sophia, and William. He cherished every moment with them, attending their sporting events, school plays, and family gatherings.
A Passion for the Outdoors
Beyond his family, Wesley had a deep love for the outdoors. He spent countless hours fishing, hunting, and hiking in the Maine wilderness. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time on the links with his friends.
Wesley was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and unwavering loyalty. He was a true friend to many and always put the needs of others before his own. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
No Funeral Service Planned
According to Wesley’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. His family will hold a private memorial gathering to celebrate his life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wesley’s memory to the Maine Chapter of the American Heart Association or Maine Woods Forever.
Wesley Chipman Smith will be deeply missed by his wife, Linda; children, Michael and Jessica; grandchildren, Ethan, Sophia, and William; siblings, Richard and Susan; and extended family and friends.
