”’html”’Georgia M. Shimizu (née Martin)”’html”’

Georgia M. Shimizu, 70, of Antioch, IL, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2024, after a courageous battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer.

She was born on August 14, 1953, in Edgerton, WI, to Robert J. and Mary R. Martin. Georgia graduated from Grayslake Community High School in 1972 and Evanston Northwestern School of Nursing in 1974. She later earned her BSN degree from Xavier University in 2004.

Georgia’s nursing career spanned over 35 years, primarily in emergency medicine. She worked at Evanston Hospital and Glenbrook Hospital, where she mentored nurses, trained paramedics and EMTs, and provided exceptional patient care. She received the Stebbins and Mulroy awards for excellence in emergency nursing and achieved Nurse Clinician status.

Georgia also served as a Trauma Coordinator at Highland Park and Condell hospitals.

Upon retiring in 2008, Georgia and her husband, Bruce K. Shimizu, whom she married over 30 years ago, enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. She had a passion for beading and crocheting.

Georgia is survived by her husband, brother Robert W. Martin, sister Connie Martin, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her parents-in-law.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St., Antioch, IL 60002.
