How to open a blocked account, step by step

1. Get your university admission letter first. Most providers ask for it, or at least proof you have applied.
2. Choose a provider. Fintiba and Expatrio are the two most used by Pakistani students because they accept international cards and do not require you to already have a German address. Deutsche Bank is the traditional option but is slower for applicants outside Germany.
3. Open the account online and complete identity verification (usually a video call or uploaded passport scan).
4. Transfer €11,904 from your own account or your sponsor’s account. Keep the bank transfer receipt — visa officers sometimes ask for the source of funds, not just the blocked account confirmation.
5. Download the confirmation letter the provider issues once the deposit clears. This is what goes in your visa file.
6. After you arrive and register your address (Anmeldung), the provider releases roughly €992 per month into a regular account you can spend from.
