Gold is having a historic run, and silver has followed it up. This tool shows the live spot price of both metals right now — per troy ounce and per gram, in US dollars and in euros — plus a small calculator that tells you what a given weight of gold or silver is worth at this minute’s price. The figures come from the Gold-API spot feed and are converted to euros at the European Central Bank reference rate, so what you see is the same benchmark jewellers, pawnbrokers and bullion dealers quote from.
How to read these prices
Precious metals are quoted worldwide in troy ounces — 31.1034768 grams, slightly heavier than the 28.35-gram ounce used for food. The big number on each card is the spot price of one troy ounce: the price for immediate delivery on the global market, in US dollars. Underneath you will find the same ounce in euros and the per-gram price in both currencies, because most jewellery, coins sold by weight and scrap gold change hands by the gram.
Using the “what is my metal worth” calculator
Pick the metal, enter the weight, choose grams or troy ounces, and the calculator multiplies by the live spot price. Ten grams of gold at a $3,995 ounce price is worth about $1,284 as raw metal; a one-ounce silver coin tracks the silver card almost exactly. Remember that spot is the metal value: dealers buy below it and sell above it, and jewellery carries craftsmanship value on top — but spot is the honest anchor every negotiation starts from.
Why the price moves
Gold rises when investors want safety: wars, banking scares, falling interest rates and a weakening dollar all push it up, because gold pays no interest and competes with bonds. Silver is half precious metal, half industrial input — solar panels, electronics and EVs consume enormous quantities — so it tends to move like gold but harder in both directions. Central banks have also been buying gold at record pace in recent years, a steady bid under the market.
Karats, coins and other units
Pure gold is 24 karat. An 18-karat ring is 75% gold, so its metal value is three-quarters of the per-gram price times its weight; 14 karat is 58.3%. Coins differ: an American Gold Eagle weighs 33.93 grams but contains exactly one troy ounce of gold (it is 22-karat alloyed for hardness), while a Canadian Maple Leaf is one full troy ounce of 99.99% pure gold. When in doubt, weigh the piece and check its hallmark before using the calculator.
Common questions
How fresh are these prices? The feed updates continuously through the trading day. Press Refresh to pull the latest quote; the “updated” line under the cards tells you when the quote was struck.
Why is the euro figure sometimes missing? If the ECB rate feed is briefly unreachable, the tool shows dollars only rather than guessing a conversion.
Is this financial advice? No. It is a price reference and a calculator. Metal prices are volatile; any buying or selling decision is yours.
Spot price, dealer price, melt value
Three numbers get confused constantly. The spot price on this page is the wholesale market benchmark. The dealer price is what a shop actually quotes you: above spot when you buy (a premium covering minting, rent and profit — small bars and famous coins carry higher premiums than large bars), below spot when you sell. Melt value is the calculator’s answer: weight times purity times spot. A coin can be worth more than melt if collectors want it, and jewellery is usually worth less than its sticker because the original price included design and brand. Knowing all three stops you mistaking one for another.
