JSON to XLSX Converter – Turn JSON Data into Excel Files Free

JSON is how APIs, apps and databases hand data around — but nobody wants to read a report, a customer list or a product export as raw code with braces and quotes. This free JSON to XLSX converter turns JSON into a real Excel workbook in seconds. Paste your JSON or drop a .json file, check the built-in preview, and download a .xlsx that opens cleanly in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice. There is no sign-up and nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs locally in your browser, so private API responses and exports never leave your machine.

How to convert JSON to XLSX

Start in whichever way suits the data you have. If your JSON sits in a file, drag the file onto the drop area or click the area and pick it; the file’s contents fill the text box for you. If you copied JSON from an API response, a browser tab or another tool, paste it straight into the box instead. Then press Convert to XLSX. The tool parses the JSON, builds the worksheet and shows a preview with the row and column counts, so you can confirm the shape looks right before anything is downloaded. Finally press Download .xlsx: the workbook keeps the base name of your source file — products.json becomes products.xlsx — and pasted JSON without a file is saved as data.xlsx.

Your JSON never leaves your device

JSON exports often carry exactly the data you least want on a stranger’s server: order histories, user records, tokens buried in config files, financial transactions. This converter therefore does all of its work on your own machine. The SheetJS library runs entirely in your browser; your file is read locally, converted locally and downloaded locally. Nothing is transmitted, stored or logged, and because no round-trip to a server is involved, the conversion is fast even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.

How arrays, single objects and nested data become rows

The shape of your JSON decides the shape of the sheet, and the rules are simple. An array of objects — the most common export shape — becomes one row per object, with the object keys as the header row and each value in its own cell. An array of arrays is written exactly as given, row by row, which suits data that already looks like a table. A single object becomes a one-row sheet with its keys as headers, handy for inspecting one record. Nested values need care: a cell in Excel holds one value, not a structure, so when a field contains another object or an array, the converter writes that field as JSON text inside the cell. Nothing is silently dropped, and you can still read or re-parse the nested data later. Numbers stay numbers, booleans stay booleans, and text in any language, including accented characters and emoji, is preserved as-is.

Limits and tips

Files up to 10 MB convert comfortably, which covers most API exports and configuration dumps; pasted JSON of a similar size works too. For the cleanest sheet, export arrays of objects whose items share the same keys — if some objects carry extra keys, those columns still appear, with blanks where an item lacks the field. Watch number-like strings such as long product codes: Excel may display very long digit strings in scientific notation, so format those cells as text in Excel if the exact digits matter. And if the converter reports invalid JSON, the message comes from the standard parser and usually points at the missing comma or quote.

JSON to XLSX Converter – frequently asked questions

Is this JSON to XLSX converter free?

Yes. It is completely free, needs no sign-up, and you can convert as many JSON files as you like, one at a time.

Will the XLSX file open in Excel and Google Sheets?

Yes. The download is a standard Excel workbook (.xlsx) that opens in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc and Apple Numbers.

Is my JSON uploaded to a server?

No. The JSON is converted locally in your browser and never uploaded, so your data stays on your device from start to finish.

What happens to nested objects inside my JSON?

They are written as JSON text inside their cell rather than being dropped or flattened without warning, so the full value survives the trip into Excel and can be read or parsed again later.
