Obituary

Maria Antonia Acker, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 84 years old.

Born on January 17, 1940, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, Maria immigrated to the United States in 1956 and settled in Antioch, IL. She was a dedicated and hardworking woman, spending many years working in the cafeteria for Antioch District 34. Later in her career, she found joy working at St. Benedict’s Abbey in Benet Lake, Wisconsin.

Maria’s passions extended beyond her professional life. She was an avid seamstress and crocheter, creating beautiful pieces that brought joy to her loved ones. She also enjoyed baking and cooking, sharing her culinary creations with her family and friends. In her spare time, she loved playing scratch-off lottery tickets.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Susan (Dennis) Chlopek of Minooka, IL; son-in-law, Tim Schenkel of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren: Joseph (Tasha Gibbs) Vieira, Melanie Chlopek, Tim Schenkel, Jr., Christine Schenkel, James Schenkel, and Gina Schenkel; and six siblings: Lucinda Villarreal-Serrano, Juana Villarreal, Maria Morales, Guadalupe Villarreal Velasquez, Victor Villarreal, and Jorge Juarez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manfred Acker; her sons, Marcaille “Jr” Lamango and Heinrich “Henry” Acker; her daughter, Mary Ann Schenkel; and her siblings: Salvadore Villarreal, Isidro Villarreal, Lalo Villareal, and Jose Matilve Villarreal.


Visitation and Funeral Services

Visitation for Maria Antonia Acker will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 3PM to 7PM at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, located at 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) in Antioch, IL 60002.

A funeral service will follow immediately after the visitation at 7PM at the funeral home.

Interment will be private at St. Benedict’s Abbey Cemetery.

Maria Antonia Acker will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.
