Obituary: Sheila Marie (Joseph) (Rancourt) Bonenfant

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Marie (Joseph) (Rancourt) Bonenfant, 84, of Winslow, Maine. Sheila passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Early Life and Family

Sheila was born on March 15, 1940, in Waterville, Maine, to the late Joseph and Marie (Rancourt) Joseph. She grew up in Waterville and attended local schools. In 1959, she married the love of her life, Richard Bonenfant, and together they raised three children.

Career and Community Involvement

Sheila worked as a certified nursing assistant for many years at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville. She was a dedicated and compassionate caregiver, who loved helping others. Sheila was also an active member of her community. She volunteered at the local soup kitchen and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Personal Life and Interests

Sheila was known for her infectious laugh and her warm and caring personality. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and she always had a kind word for everyone she met. Sheila enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, and traveling. She was also an avid reader and loved to learn new things.

Survived By

Sheila is survived by her three children, Richard Bonenfant Jr. of Winslow, Maine; Robert Bonenfant of Waterville, Maine; and Rachel Bonenfant of New York City, New York; her grandchildren, Sarah Bonenfant, Emily Bonenfant, and Matthew Bonenfant; her great-grandchildren, Sophia Bonenfant and Olivia Bonenfant; and her brother, Joseph Joseph of Waterville, Maine.

Funeral Arrangements

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame-Corpus Christi Parish, 116 Silver Street, Waterville, Maine, on May 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sheila’s memory to the American Legion Auxiliary, P.O. Box 84, Waterville, Maine 04903.
