IELTS vs Duolingo for European Universities (2026)

For the exact accepted-alternative policy at 17 specific German universities, see our list of universities in Germany without IELTS.

Open the specific program’s own admissions page, not a general university language-requirements page — requirements are frequently set per program, not per university. Search that page for the exact list of accepted tests and alternatives. If Duolingo is not named explicitly, assume it is not accepted and plan for PTE Academic, IELTS, or your medium-of-instruction letter instead.
