  • Most common IELTS alternative: an official letter proving your bachelor’s was taught in English (a “medium of instruction” letter), or PTE Academic
  • Only one university below explicitly accepts Duolingo: Constructor University Bremen (private)
  • Non-EU tuition warning: Baden-Württemberg (Stuttgart, Freiburg, Mannheim, KIT Karlsruhe) charges €1,500/semester for non-EU students on top of the standard semester fee
  • Most deadlines below were not yet published for the specific 2027 intake at time of writing — check the linked page directly closer to your application window

1. Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin)

City: Berlin | Level: Master’s programs with English-taught modules

IELTS alternative: PTE Academic (65 for B2-level programs, 76 for C1), plus Cambridge exams, TOEFL iBT/ITP, UNIcert, DAAD ZEMS, or Oxford Test of English. TU Berlin does not list a general bachelor’s-taught-in-English exemption for master’s applicants, and does not accept Duolingo.
